Back In The Saddle Again

After two days rest, I was back on my bike in west Pensacola by 8:45 AM, heading for Destin on Hwy 98.  The temps was 56 degrees with clear sunny sky's.  The road conditions were excellent with a the exception of moderately heavy traffic in Destin.  Because of it's close proximity to the edge of the continental shelf - where deep-sea fishing for billfish is the best, Destin is know as "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village"

It is no longer a village, but a busy resort destination, with beautiful emerald waters and pure white sand.
There was a strong cross wind out of the north (25 mph) and later in the day the wind switched and came from the northwest providing a little bit of help.  In the middle portion of the ride on I turned north onto Hwy 331 named The Beach Highway and for 10 miles headed straight into the north wind.

The remainder of today's ride I was on Hwy 20 headed straight east, crossing over the Choctawhatchee River.

Ending the day in Ebro with 100.7 miles.

Day 21 of Riding:
Total Daily Miles: 100.7
Total Ride Miles: 2179.4
Daily Elevation Climb: 265'
Daily Ride Time: 7 hrs.
Daily Average Speed: 16.4 mph

  8. I never knew you Roger but truly enjoyed reading your blog and about your passions. I learned about your journey from my co-worker, your daughter-in-law Agi. I am deeply saddened by the tragic news. Much love to all of your family through this rough time.

  9. Dear Roger, Vicki and Family,
We had to read these comments about twenty times before it sunk in what had happened....you'd think after losing a precious 16 yr. old daughter because of a careless driver that we wouldn't be shocked by such things...but shocked we are. And saddened beyond words.
Yesterday I posted this quote on my Facebook page:
"Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight."
    -R.W. Raymond
Guess what time I posted it? 8:55 a.m.
I think it was Roger making sure we know....his sweet soul continues to soar.

    With much love,
Kristen, Eddie, Jamison & always Sarah

  10. I am terribly sorry to read of your loss. I love cycling and recently completed a (much less heroic) charity ride. I will make a donation to yours and I wish you peace and comfort in this terrible time.

  11. I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Roger. I work for the Children's Miracle Network office in Springfield, MO. Norb and Ann Bagley are raising money to support our charity on a very similar ride and met Roger days before his passing. In honor of Roger, we have posted information in our hospital on how to connect to his blog, with the hopes that others will support his goal of raising funds for the Gulf oil spill. Our prayers our with Rogers family at this time.
