We can't believe it's been a year since Roger was tragically killed by a distracted driver, who was on a cell phone. Roger was biking from San Diego, CA to Jacksonville Beach, FL to build awareness and raise funds for the victims of the 2010 Gulf Coast Oil Spill. We are honored that more than 20 Pensacola area cyclists will gather on October 6, 2011, to honor his legacy and help us finish Roger's remaining 300 miles, ending with a tire dipping on October 9th in the Atlantic ocean.
In memory of Roger,I donated $32 for the Oil Spill Response. Love Steve
ReplyDeleteI am so very saddened to hear about this wonderful man's tragic ending. I plan on going back to the beginning and reading his entire blog of this amazing, yet final, ride. I hope it brings some comfort for his friends and family through the years to read his words of excitment about his trip.

ReplyDeleteDevastated
ReplyDeleteVicky, it is 3:20 pm on October 7th. We just got your email and checked the Blog. We are utterly, completely and totally devastated. Oh my, the memories, most resent having you both spend a night here with us and just for a few hours on the epic journey. Please lord, take care of Roger, make him a saint and protect his family from the anguish we feel in the loss of a good man, husband, father and friend. How can this be, oh lord, how can this be?
I am so sorry for Roger's death and so grateful that men like him have had such goodness. The world has lost a wonderful person.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Blue Angels will be able to make a flyover for the service. I am reminded of the first and last verses of "High Flight" .
ReplyDeleteOh- I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth.
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
GODSPEED ROGER - YOU ARE NOW AN ANGEL
I worked with Roger at the University of Nebraska and was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the accident. To the Grooters family...I'm so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Blessings, Ann Chiganos
ReplyDeleteWe met Roger and Vicki on 10-3-10 as we were cycling west. They were so kind to take a photo and offer to list our blog on his site as we are riding for Children's Miracle Network. We will share his cause also. He obviously was a much beloved man with a big heart who will be greatly missed. We are honored to have crossed his path. To Vicki and family/friends: May peace cup your hearts & hold them gently. Norb & Ann Bagley
